1G Singapore National Flower 999.9 Fine Gold Bar
Named after Agnes Joaquim (1854-1899) who first discovered this orchid, Vanda Miss Joaquim is a orchid hybrid between Vanda hookerana and Vanda teres. It is only found and grown right here in Singapore and not anywhere else.
It was chosen as Singapore’s national flower on 15 April 1981 to represent Singapore’s uniqueness and hybrid culture.
The four main petals of the flower represent the four main ethnic groups of Singapore namely, the Chinese, the Malays, the Indians, and the Eurasians. The two supporting petals represent the sharing of glory and pain.
Vanda Miss Joaquim was also selected as the national flower due to its hardy and resilient qualities, and its unique trait of blooming throughout the year.
These are characteristics which reflect Singapore’s continuous pursue for progress and excellence in all aspects of life, and symbolize Singapore’s never ending hope and renewal of the future.
